JOB SUMMARY




This position is responsible for making sure state and local ordinances and laws are followed.


 


MAJOR DUTIES






  1. Inspects project site work.


  2. Monitors on-going developments.


  3. Conducts site investigations.


  4. Investigates needed infrastructure.


  5. Monitors erosion and sedimentation control.


  6. Completes work orders.


  7. Layout of marsh and wetland buffers.


  8. Performs all other duties as assigned.




KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION






  1. Knowledge of construction methods.


  2. Knowledge of city ordinances.


  3. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.


  4. Knowledge of basic principles of civil engineering.


  5. Knowledge of surveying methods and practices.


  6. Knowledge of development plans, plats, and maps.


  7. Knowledge of layout of streets, water and sewer mains, and subdivisions.


  8. Knowledge of state and federal laws, policies and procedures.


  9. Skill in oral and written communication.


  10. Skill in interpersonal relations.




SUPERVISORY CONTROLS




The Public Works Engineer assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.


 


GUIDELINES




Guidelines include city ordinances, International Building Codes, Georgia Soil and Water Erosion Control measures, Department of Natural Resources Buffer Requirements, and Georgia Environmental Protection Division Wetlands requirements. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.


 


COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK






  • The work consists of technical, planning, and construction related duties. Guidelines are not followed according to state and local laws and ordinances contribute to the complexity of the position.


  • The purpose of this position is to make sure the state and local ordinances and laws are followed. Success in this position ensures subdivisions, houses, and developments meet all state and local ordinances, drainage is correct, and the location of water/sewer services.

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, developers, House Superintendents, Subdivision Superintendents, and general public.


  • Contacts are typically to provide services and to give or exchange information.


 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT






  • The work is typically performed while bending, walking, stooping, standing, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.


  • The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, and grease and machinery with moving parts. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.


 


SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY




None.




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS






  • High school diploma or equivalent required; and


  • More than three years of related experience required; or


  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.


  • Possession of a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
