Required Degree:
BS or BA is required. The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience:
Experience directing choral ensembles and/or dance ensemble experience desirable.
Demonstrated knowledge of and meaningful engagement with the vocal, musical, dance, and cultural traditions of the African diaspora.
An authentic understanding of the traditions represented by the ensemble, informed through personal and/or professional experience, is highly desirable.
Experience selecting, arranging, or curating repertoire appropriate for collegiate performance ensembles.
Experience in ensemble coordination, rehearsal leadership, and performance-based education.
Ability to mentor and inspire students while fostering a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
Duties/Expectations:
This position provides artistic and administrative leadership for the Rhythm & Soul Collective, a newly established student performing ensemble that explores, preserves, and celebrates the rich vocal, musical, and dance traditions of the African diaspora through performance and education. The Director will help establish the artistic culture, student leadership model, and long-term vision of the ensemble while fostering a welcoming learning environment that supports artistic excellence, community, and student growth.
In support of Brigham Young University's mission, the Director creates meaningful artistic and educational experiences that promote collaboration, cultural understanding, and student engagement. Responsibilities include selecting and developing repertoire that reflects the ensemble's artistic mission and educational objectives; planning and directing rehearsals and performances; identifying, developing, and coordinating performance opportunities both on and off campus; mentoring student leaders; supporting artistic development across vocal and dance disciplines; coordinating ensemble operations; and collaborating with campus partners to ensure program continuity and advance the mission of the Rhythm & Soul Collective.
