Overview


The Lead Gymnastics Coach is responsible for leading and supporting the daily operations of the gymnastics program. This role brings strong leadership, organizational, and instructional skills to ensure that all classes are running efficiently and in alignment with our program’s standards. As the go-to person in the absence of the Gymnastics Coordinator and Director, the Lead Gymnastics Coach plays a vital role in maintaining consistency, addressing day-to-day challenges, and ensuring a safe, positive environment for athletes and coaches alike. This role also includes overseeing the quality of instruction delivered by other coaches, assisting with administrative duties, and contributing to the development of gymnastics program for events while demonstrating and adhering to the YMCA’s mission and code of conduct.

  • Branch: Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA

  • Location: Carlsbad, (6 miles north of Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA)

  • Address: 2261 Cosmos Court, Carlsbad, CA, 92011

  • The shift will depend on whether the individual is working with boys' team or girls' team, but the general window of shifts will be Monday - Friday from 3:30pm - 8:00pm and potentially Saturdays from 9:00am - 2:00pm


Responsibilities



  • Oversees the daily operations of the gymnastics department, ensuring all gymnastics classes are running smoothly and in alignment with program standards

  • Provides oversight of other gymnastics coaches' classes by monitoring the quality and content of instruction, ensuring consistency with the gymnastics program code of conduct and athlete development goals

  • Serves as the primary point of contact in the absence of the program coordinator and director, maintaining continuity and addressing any immediate needs with gymnastics program

  • Responsible for opening and closing the facility as scheduled, ensuring safety protocols are followed and the gym is clean, secure, and well-prepared for all activities

  • Maintains gymnastics equipment upkeep by conducting regular inspections, identifying repair or replacement needs, and ensuring a safe training environment

  • Assists with administrative tasks as needed, including class scheduling, attendance tracking, communication with families, and support with staff coordination

  • Assists with organizing, maintaining gymnastics participant’s registration records, distribution of certification of achievements, evaluations, and supporting operational workflows as directed

  • Stays informed about the program details such as session dates, prices, classes, days, and times

  • Provides support and contributes to special projects and program initiatives, including developing the gymnastics program and planning engaging activities for events such as Parent Night Out, preschool camps, seasonal camps, and daily programming

  • Immediately notifies supervisor regarding participant or parent incidents and attends training events and instructor clinics when made available

  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures

  • Physical ability to safely spot, lead, demonstrate, and interact in group activities

  • Visual and auditory ability and physical capacity to quickly identify, assess, and respond effectively to critical incidents and emergencies

  • Basic knowledge of equipment use and safety checks

  • Possesses a coaching style that demonstrates enthusiasm, leadership, fairness, and fun

  • Ability to encourage positive social skills and appropriate behavior

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications



  • Formal education, usually obtained by a High School Diploma/GED, or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance, supplemented by specialized training in competitive gymnastics, acrobats, or a related field 

  • 2+ years' of experience working with children ages 3-14 as a gymnastics coach, parkour, tumbling, group gymnastics, acrobatics, or related field

  • Active USA Gymnastics Recreational Coach Membership is required

  • Licensing, state law and our government funders are required that all staff (hybrid, remote, or onsite) within YMCA San Diego County are fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications.

  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: 

    • American Red Cross 

    • American Heart Association 

    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $22.64 - USD $27.17 /Hr.
