Primarily looking for weekend attendants (7 AM-5 PM).




Job Summary:


Under the direction of the Facility Supervisor, the Takiff Center Attendant supports daily operations and provides customer service to patrons at the Takiff Center.





Key Responsibilities:



  • Open and close the Takiff Center in accordance with established procedures.

  • Provide customer service to patrons, including answering questions in person, by phone, and via email.

  • Assist with facility rentals and birthday parties, including coordination, set-up, and on-site support.

  • Orient potential renters and user groups to the facility, amenities, and usage expectations.

  • Monitor activities to ensure compliance with Takiff Center rules, policies, and safety standards.

  • Perform light janitorial and facility upkeep duties to maintain a clean and welcoming environment.





Qualifications:



  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Previous experience with facility operations and park district programming is preferred.

  • Must be available for weekday mornings, evenings, and/or weekends.

  • Ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds, if required.

  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a team; responsible and careful.

  • CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification required upon hire.  

  • All employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District will cover.





Required Knowledge:



  • Working knowledge of fitness center and/or community center operations.

  • General understanding of park district programs, services, and operational practices.





Required Skills:



  • Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and courteously with employees and customers in person, by phone, and via email.

  • Ability to identify issues, problem-solve effectively, and respond appropriately as situations arise.

  • Ability to work independently, manage tasks, and follow through with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated professional judgment, initiative, flexibility, and creativity.

  • Ability to positively represent and support the mission, values, and standards of the Glencoe Park District.





Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Open and/or close the facility during assigned weekday and weekend shifts.

  • Follow opening and closing procedures and complete all required documentation.

  • Assist with the daily operations of the Takiff Center fitness area, including:

    • Scanning/swiping patron membership cards

    • Cleaning and sanitizing fitness equipment

    • Providing basic instruction on the safe use of fitness equipment.



  • Perform light administrative duties, including basic data entry as needed.

  • Wash, dry, and fold fitness towels to maintain cleanliness and availability.

  • Set up and prepare rooms for programs, special events, birthday parties, and facility rentals.

  • Assist with special event operations, including set-up, tear-down, and general clean-up.

  • Perform light custodial duties to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility.

  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to patrons and staff.

  • Conduct routine facility walkthroughs to identify safety concerns, maintenance needs, and policy violations.

  • Wear a Park District-approved uniform while on duty.

  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.

  • Respond appropriately to emergencies in accordance with the District's Emergency Action Plan and Crisis Management procedures, providing assistance and direction as needed.

  • Complete incident and accident reports and submit them to the Facility Supervisor for review promptly.

  • Follow and enforce Park District policies, procedures, rules, and safety guidelines.

  • Report facility concerns, incidents, and policy violations to the Facility Supervisor in a timely manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, department head, and/or Executive Director.





Physical Demands:


The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the Takiff Center Attendant position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.




While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to:



  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.

  • Handle medium-weight materials and equipment requiring limited physical effort, including:

    • Ability to frequently lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

    • Ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.







Psychological Demands:


To be successful in this position, the employee must be customer service-oriented and able to interact professionally with individuals of varying needs and backgrounds. The ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused when addressing concerns or difficult situations is essential.





Work Environment:


Work is typically performed in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. The noise level is generally moderate but may occasionally be loud depending on activities, programs, and facility usage.





Hours:


This position is primarily scheduled for early weekday mornings (5:15–8:30 AM) and weekends (7:00 AM–5:00 PM). Due to the nature of park district operations and programming, evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required.




Pay Scale:


This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $19-21 per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $19-30 per hour.




Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the Facility Supervisor or the Assistant Director of Recreation and Facilities.
