Job Description

Elmhurst University invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in the music department with a background in K-12 general music and music education. Experience teaching K-6 elementary general music is a must, and additional experience teaching 6-12 general music is desired. Main teaching responsibilities include teaching K-12 General Music Methods, and arranging general music clinical teaching observations and experiences for class participants.

Position Status: Exempt

Salary Range: The pay range is $3,800-$4,000 for a standard 1.0 credit (4 semester hour) course. New part-time faculty start at $3,800 (Adjunct Level 1).

Responsibilities

  • Teach one K-12 Classroom Music (MUS 366) course during the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Use materials that are standardized across all sections of the course.
  • Be present for all course meetings, including the final exam period, and hold additional office hours to assist with student questions.
  • Monitor student progress, grade assignments, and post grades in a timely fashion.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in music education
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate utilizing the Orff-Schulwerk, Dalcroze, and Kodaly methodologies are a must

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Orff-Schulwerk and/or Kodaly certifications
  • Prior teaching experience at the college level

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in an indoor setting with limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is often sedentary in nature and requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods. Required abilities include speaking and hearing for in-person and virtual communication, using close and distance vision when reading documents or viewing screens, and performing tasks with repetitive fine motor skills. Work may require occasional lifting, bending, carrying, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Qualified applicants who can perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations will be considered.
