Salary:
$48.19 - $55.00 per hour commensurate with experience.
This is a part-time, non-benefit eligible position.
Job Description Summary:
The Research Engineer, under general direction, is responsible for conducting and supporting basic and applied research on communications systems and networks. This role utilizes knowledge of existing networks to design, implement, and test creative and innovative solutions to new and emerging challenges in next generation wireless networks. The primary responsibilities include supporting research initiatives within the field of communications systems and networking. Performs as subject matter expert on research projects.
Responsibilities:
- Support of research, development, testing and evaluation projects in communications and network systems, including:
- Supports evaluation and analysis of technical approaches to research opportunities.
- Supports research and evaluation of appropriate equipment, protocols, designs, procedures, and tools to address research requirements.
- Supports research engineering activities, such as design, configuration, operation, and experimentation with communications systems and networks.
- Produces network designs, reports, and other research products.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six years of related experience in communications systems and networks.
Registration, Certifications, and Licenses:
- US Passport and willing and able to perform domestic and international travel.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Willing and able to drive/travel to other parts of campus, other campuses, and other agencies in the state.
- Able to install/remove equipment such as servers, switches, radios and antennas, in racks or mounted on walls or polls or other locations.
- Occasional use of step stool or ladder.
- Willing and able to occasionally work outside normal office hours.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Licenses and Certifications:
- Certifications in Networking, Network Security, Wireless Communications, Emergency Management, or other related categories.
