Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Facility Manager, the Lakefront Ambassador serves as a friendly, visible presence at Glencoe Beach during weekend operations. As the first point of contact for visitors, the Lakefront Ambassador provides exceptional customer service, assists guests with questions, promotes a safe and welcoming environment, and works collaboratively with Boat Management to support daily beach operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Welcome and greet guests in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner.
- Provide information regarding beach operations, amenities, and services.
- Educate patrons on park rules, policies, and safety guidelines.
- Promote a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for all lakefront visitors.
- Respond to guest questions, concerns, and requests while providing exceptional customer service.
This is a part-time seasonal position that typically requires working 10–15 hours per week. The Lakefront Ambassador is expected to be available throughout the sailing season, generally from mid-August through mid-October, with weekend availability required.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification required upon hire or within one month of employment.
- Ability to work weekends throughout the sailing season.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check, paid for by the Glencoe Park District.
Required Knowledge
- Knowledge of customer service principles and effective public relations practices.
- Knowledge of Glencoe Beach operations, District rules, policies, and safety procedures, or the ability to learn them quickly.
- Ability to educate patrons on rules and policies in a positive, respectful, and professional manner.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-oriented in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome visitors and provide exceptional customer service.
- Answer questions regarding beach operations, amenities, admission, and available services.
- Educate patrons on beach rules, District policies, and safety guidelines, including prohibited items, designated swimming and boating areas, and facility procedures.
- Provide directions and information regarding restrooms, concessions, parking, locker areas, and other beach amenities.
- Maintain a visible presence throughout the beach and lakefront to assist guests, promote safety, and encourage compliance with District rules and policies.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with patrons to address questions, resolve minor concerns, and promote positive guest experience.
- Monitor the beach and surrounding areas for safety concerns, maintenance issues, or policy violations, and promptly report concerns to Beach Management.
- Assist with guest flow, crowd management, and visitor inquiries during peak attendance periods and special events.
- Support daily beach operations and assist with special events and other operational needs, as assigned.
- Represent the Glencoe Park District in a professional, courteous, and welcoming manner at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
The physical requirements described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee who successfully performs the essential functions of the Lakefront Ambassador position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods.
- Handle medium-weight materials and equipment requiring limited physical effort, including:
- Safely lifting 50 pounds maximum.
- Lift and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed outdoors at the Glencoe Beach lakefront. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to varying weather conditions, including not limited to heat, sun, wind, rain, and humidity.
The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate but may increase during busy periods and special events.
Hours:
Weekly work hours are based on employee availability, weather conditions, and operational needs, and will be determined by the Facility Manager. Due to the very nature of Park District programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours are to be expected.
Pay Scale:
This is a seasonal part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $X per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $19 per hour to $30 per hour.
Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the Facility Manager, or the Assistant Director of Recreation and Facilities.
