Job Description

Supports daily library operations by shelving materials, maintaining collection organization, and preparing spaces for programs. Under supervision, the staff member performs shelf reading, fulfills routing requests, and maintains a functional understanding of the library layout to ensure materials are easily accessible to the public.


 


Position Overview:






  • Hours: 10 Hours per week, including some evenings and weekends.

  • Classification: Non-union position.

  • Compensation: $13.75 per hour

Essential Duties:


 



  • Materials Management: Sort and load materials onto carts; accurately shelve books and media in proper alphanumeric order.

  • Collection Maintenance: Perform routine "shelf reading" to ensure materials are perfectly ordered; shift items in public areas to prevent overcrowding.

  • Circulation Support: Assist library staff with end-of-day closing procedures and general circulation tasks.

  • Quality Control: Proactively report missing or damaged items, as well as complex shelving issues, to your supervisor.

  • General Upkeep: Assist in the overall maintenance, cleanliness, and organization of the library’s shared collections.

  • Physical Operations: Lift, carry, and push carts of books and materials up to 40 lbs; stand, sit, or walk for extended periods; and comfortably bend, reach, or stoop to manage inventory


 


Required Qualifications:


 



  • Education: High school diploma or current enrollment in high school.

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong orientation toward public service.

  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to utilize standard office equipment.

  • Core Competencies: Ability to sort in alphabetic or numeric order according to the Dewey Decimal System. High attention to details and strong critical thinking skills. Ability to follow written details and oral instruction. Thrives in a fast-paced environment and easily adjusts to changing priorities and workflows.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a cohesive team.
